HOI AN – On the morning of March 24, 2021, the Quang Nam Sub-department of Fisheries coordinated with the Youth Union of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize the release of aquatic species into natural water bodies in the nipa palm forest of Cua Dai estuary, in Cam Thanh ward, Hoi An city.

This is an annual activity, aiming at replenishing and regenerating the population density of fish species that have been exhausted. Especially, the event hopes to restore endangered and rare aquatic species, both endemic species and those of economic value. At the same time, such activities might raise general public awareness of biodiversity and its protection.

The type of fish stocked via helicopter include giant tiger prawns (Penaeus monodon) and endemic marine species which have been bred to adapt to the natural environment such as: rabbitfish, mullets, Lutjanus snappers, blue crab, etc. Before stocking, the quality check of the fingerlings and water quality criteria is done quite thoughtfully. The number of aquatic breeds released into the wild is about 1,200,000 for shrimp juveniles and 5,000 for other aquatic species. All these fry and fingerlings were purchased by the Sub-department of Fisheries from local hatcheries the province.

The fish stocking is a very practical and meaningful activity, demonstrating the roles and responsibilities of organizations and individuals in joining hands in the protection, conservation, regeneration and development of aquatic resources. Hopefully, with the motto “Joining hands to protect the environment, and develop aquatic resources”, Quang Nam province will fulfill their wish to establish a stable and sustainable fishing industry.
