The Tonghomsombath Construction Company is sinking more than 370 billion kip (US$ 44million) into building a 121 Km long road linking Xekong province to the Vietnamese border. The overall goal of the project is to boost trade and business links between Laos and Vietnam. The project is vital in helping the Lao government to improve basic infrastructure and boosting trade for local villagers. It views the road link as an important investment in the development of the country and the improvement of people’s living standards. The road will have an asphalt surface with drainage channels along either side. The road should reach the Vietnamese border by 2013. In the future, the road will ease transport links to Da Nang, a port city in Vietnam, helping to boost trade even further. When this road is complete it is expected to open up opportunities for villagers to grow more crops. It will be easier for them to transport goods to sell in markets and traders can visit them directly to buy their goods.
