Asia- Pacific nations salute Cuba’s struggle

Around 200 delegates from 217 friendship organizations in 22 nations gathered in Vientiane last weekend at the Fifth Asia-Pacific Regional Conference for Solidarity with Cuba to reaffirm solidarity with the island nation. At the two-day conference, which was held on March 19-20 by the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the People in collaboration with the Lao-Cuba Friendship Association, the delegates expressed support for the easing of economic pressure on Cuba. Delivering his welcome speech at the opening ceremony, Lao National Assembly President Thongsing Thammavong expressed his support for the resolute fight of the Cuban people against the aggression, interference, and blockades by hostile forces for more than five decades. Prof. Tissa Vitarana expressed appreciation for Cuba’s struggles against economic limitations and aggression. Cuba has an outstanding record in medical science and the country has sent its medical experts as volunteers to help many countries around the world. The Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference for solidarity with Cuba was attended by delegates from friendship associations, solidarity groups, and multifaceted solidarity movements from Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam, and the World Peace Council.
