Hue royal court music, Nhã nhạc, receives official Intangible Cultural Heritage certicifate

On January 31, in Paris (France), UNESCO will hold a ceremony to award the certificate of recognition of the Intangible and Oral Cultural Heritage of Humanity for the Hue Royal Court Music of Vietnam. The Vietnamese delegation led by Mr. Lê Viết Xê, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, left this morning for France to attend this event.

On November 7, 2003, UNESCO officially selected and named 28 masterpieces of the world, including Nhã nhạc, the royal court music of the Nguyen Dynasty, as Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. However, until January 31, 2004, Vietnam was officially awarded the recognition certificate. Professor Trần Văn Khê was invited to introduce the origin as well as the development of Hue royal court music through the performance of the court music artists at the awarding ceremony. After the presentation by Professor Trần Văn Khê, Vietnamese artists will have a performance introducing elegant music within 50 minutes.

The Vietnamese orchestra consists of 16 artists, including 11 musicians and 5 singers and court dancers of the Art Troupe of Hue Monuments Conservation Center, with the special participation of Nha Nhac artisan Trần Kích.

After attending the ceremony, the Vietnamese artist delegation will have exchange performances to serve overseas Vietnamese as well as foreigners who love and are interested in traditional Vietnamese arts at a festival in French cities such as Lion, Montreal, Marseille as as well as in Belgium, Germany…
