The German Federal Foreign Office and Ministry for Cooperation and Development has provided 34.4 billion kip (2.9 million euros) through the Solidarity Service International Organisation (SODI) to help people living in areas of Laos contaminated with unexploded ordnance (UXO). A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed yesterday in Vientiane between the Deputy Director of the National Regulatory Authority (NRA) for the UXO/Mine Action sector in Laos, Mr. Somnuk Vorasarn, and SODI Board Member, Mr. Wolfram Schwope. The project will be implemented in Khamkeuth district, Borikhamxay province, from July 2009 to June 2014. Project activities will focus on providing education in kindergartens and primary schools, supplying clean water constructing and expanding irrigation systems, and capacity building activities.
