Laos and Vietnam have agreed to accelerate the planting of boundary markers along their common border this year with a target of building 237 markers and finalizing the remaining work set for 2009. The agreement was reached during the sixth round meeting of experts of the Vietnam-Laos Joint Committee for Border Marker Planting which ended in the Laotian capital of Vientiane on January 11. At the meeting, the two sides agreed that they would focus on marker planting in the first six months of the year to avoid the rainy season. Last year, Laos and Vietnam defined 190 locations and built 141 markers, which was behind schedule due to unfavourable weather conditions.
