Malaysia-based Mudajaya studies hydroelectricity power plant in Laos

The Lao Government has given a licence to Mudajaya Corporation Berhad from Malaysia to undertake a feasibility study of a 60-MW hydroelectricity power plant on Nam Poui river in Phieng district, Sayaboury province. The Mudajaya Corporation Berhad, a subsidiary of Mudajaya Group Berhad, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of the Lao PDR to undertake an exclusive study on Nam Poui 1 hydro electric power project in Laos, at Don Chanh Palace Hotel on 6 October. The Nam Poui 1 hydroelectricity power project is designed to produce and supply electrical power for export to neighbouring countries, as well as for domestic consumption in Laos. The project is located downstream of the Nam Poui river in Phieng district of the northwestern province of Sayaboury. The project’s feasibility study report is scheduled to be submitted to the Government of Laos 19 months from the date of execution of the MOU. This MOU is valid for a period of 21 proceed to the signing of the project development agreement if found to be viable or otherwise shall expire unless the MOU is extended by mutual consent between the Mudajaya Corporation Berhad and the Government of Laos.
