Laos: Ratch-Lao to manage Nam Ngum 2 power plant

Ratch-Lao Service Company Limited, a Thai power company operating in Laos, is preparing to manage operation and maintenance of the Nam Ngum 2 hydropower plant at the end of this year, according to the company’s managing director, Mr. Jatuporn Soparaksa. The agrrement is valid for 27 years. The company will earn about 120 million Thai baht a year for its management services. Ratch-Lao is a sub company of Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding PCL, one of the largest Independent Power Producers (IPP) in Thailand, which holds 25 percent of the investment share in the Nam Ngum 2 Power Company. Ratch Lao has registered investment capital of US$ 500.000. The 315 MW power plants, which is under construction, is set for completion within the next few months. It is scheduled to kick off commercial operations and export all of its electricity to Thailand at the end of this year. The country has the potential for hydropower generation thanks to its mountainous terrain and abundant rainfall, which is more than in Thailand.
